Cinema Reopen Bnr

Hot Docs Cinema Reopening

Welcome back! Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema will be reopening its doors on Thursday, October 8.

We want you to know the safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority. Our reopening comes after much consultation and with careful adherence to current City of Toronto Public Health guidelines. We will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds over the upcoming months and adjust our operations accordingly.

While endeavoring to maintain an enjoyable viewing experience, we will be introducing necessary safety precautions—including mandatory mask wearing, reduced capacity (50), advanced reserve seating and increased physical distancing procedures—all listed below.

Please note, you will now need to book your tickets in advance on our website. To keep the Cinema contact-free, tickets are no longer available for purchase on site.

Upon opening, we will be offering a streamlined schedule of two films a day, allotting for increased cleaning time in-between screenings.

We recognize you may not yet be comfortable returning to the Cinema, so we’re thrilled to also continue to offer dynamic streaming programming on Hot Docs at Home. We are also committed to bringing films premiering at the Cinema to Hot Docs at Home, ensuring all our audiences have the opportunity to experience them.

Thank you for your support during these difficult times. If you’re able to further your assistance as we navigate these critical next steps, please consider making a donation or becoming a Hot Docs Member. Leading up to our reopening, we’re offering special pricing on memberships—now is a great time to join and save on our range of in-cinema and on-demand offerings.

Napkins, biodegradable straws, utensils and condiments are available upon request.

Concessions staff are wearing masks and practicing enhanced sanitation and disinfection protocols, in accordance with Toronto Public Health. We have installed Plexiglas partitions at every point of sale as a protective barrier between our staff and our guests.

Please consider sending one person from your group to make your order.

Physical Distancing Measures

Total audience capacity has been reduced to 50 in the Cinema. To facilitate physical distancing, seating in the upper balcony is currently unavailable.

All seats are reserved-only. In compliance with physical distancing guidelines, all guests will automatically have “buffer seats” of at least 2 m / 6 ft of distance built in between them and other attendees. Guests are required to sit in their reserved seat for the duration of the movie, and not sit in empty seats or rows. If a seat change is needed, please ask one of our employees for assistance.

Signage reminding guests to ensure physical distancing will be available in common areas throughout the building, including in our auditoriums, concessions and washrooms.

We ask that all guests not lining up for concessions, find their seats immediately in order to keep the lobby clear.

Guests will be asked to leave the cinema after their screening. To minimize crowding, patrons will be asked to exit the Cinema row by row, starting with the balcony. Further instructions and directions will be provided in an announcement at the end of the screening.
